He had researched Investigator Blackman extensively.

Using the Order's state of the art database, Eli had been gathering information about the intriguing female: Odette Blackman, born on Seattle, WA. Twenty seven years, no siblings. Criminal Attorney specialized in international criminal law. Single. That last piece of information brought a smile to his face. Looking at her file photo, he studied her delicate features. The female was certainly a beauty. And he was due to admire her up close again in less than an hour.

  Elijah Breed At the agreed hour, Elijah arrived at JUSTIS headquarters. The building was full of bureaucrats: people coming and going carrying documents and briefcases. Elijah marveled at their serious faces and endless paper pushing ... It made him thankful of his decision to join the Order.*

  Elijah Breed *The assistant's voice shook him out of his reverie. He entered the office and found Odette sitting at her desk, reading a thick file.* Please sit down, I'll be with you in a minute.
  
  *Two hours later, Eli had finished giving his statement. Odette listened intently, interrupting him to clarify or expand certain points, looking so sexy in her suit and glasses... He had spent the better part of those two hours trying to charm her into accepting a date. However, it bothered him that try as hard as he might, he couldn't get through to her. The female was inscrutable. Not even a single smile had appeared on those very kissable lips. His usual charm was giving him zero results.*

  Elijah Breed *The female spoke in that sexy bedroom voice* That will be all for now. As agreed, the Breed corpse will be released to the Order's custody or to the family members. We are worried about one thing, though. *Elijah raised an eyebrow* Your statement indicates you were not on patrol and you were wearing street clothes. Yet you were heavily armed. Of course you know that when you are off duty, you are not allowed to carry weapons on your person...

Don't get any weird ideas where I'm concerned. I have never been; and will never be, DINNER to your kind. If you are peckish, go look elsewhere. That will be all.
