* 10:00 pm Washington DC, Tegan's Office
Sitting at his desk, he thought back over the years, the way it was before the humans knew about his kind and how things were easier. When there was only rogues and Dragos to worry about. A time the warriors patrolled the streets of Boston and not confined to desks or staying in the background.
Twenty years ago, Streets of Boston
Leaping soundlessly from the roof of one dusk-shadowed building to another. Tegan crouched at the ledge and surveyed the tangle of bustling streets and alleyways. As one of the Order, a small cadre of Breed vampires engaged in war against their savage brethren, the Rogues. Tegan‘s primary nightly objective was dealing death to his enemies. It was something he did with a cold efficiency, a skill perfected during his more than seven centuries of existence.
Scanning the streets below him he watched the coming and goings of humans who dared to be out at this time of night. Reports had been coming in that the rogue activity had increased in the area. The ear piece in his ear came to life as Nikolai's voice came over it, reporting the harbor docks had rogues waiting on a ship to dock. Tegan listened to the report knowing he would be the one to back them since he was the closest to him and Kade.
Spotting movement below him, he leaned into the shadows to conceal him, two rogues were stalking a female, leaping down onto the roof of another, searching for the weakest member in the herd. The human was unaware she was being followed or was about to get some very unwanted company. Two more Rogues came around the corner, the humans pace slowed as she looked around for some place to go. *
Damn it, * Tegan growled, as the rogues in front of the human lunged into action. The female gasped in terror as one of them grabbed the from of her clothing yanking her to them. Drawing a large blade from the sheath at his hip. With a running leap, he dropped down from the ledge of the building, landing smoothly on the ground in a low crouch. The two rogues nearest him split up, one taking cover while the other shouted that they were under attack. Tegan silenced the warning in mid-sentence, slicing his length of titanium-edged steel across the suckhead‘s throat. The rogue who was hiding came out rushing toward Tegan, grabbing the rogue, he threw the snarling vampire into the side of the brick building and holding it there with his forearm wedged under the suckhead‘s chin. Using his other hand he drove his titanium-edged steel blade into the rogue, its screams of pain hitting the air.
The female screamed as the two rogue who held her down, both to busy focusing on the human to notice him. Grabbing one of the rogues, Tegan threw him away from the human. The second rogue looked up at him, amber eyes glowing from the bloodlust. Knocking the rogue away from the female, Tegan yelled.* Run, Get out of here, now.
* The human took off around the corner to scared to look behind her. The rogues came at him, snarling, jaws wide, huge fangs dripping saliva. He plunged his blade into one of the rogues in the midsection, it bent over in pain howling. Grabbing the other, he pined the rogue to the wall, with chillingly swift efficiency, Tegan brought his other hand up and buried a blade in the rogue‘s neck. The diseased vampire dropped, lifeless, its corpse sizzling from the titanium that poisoned its corrupt bloodstream. Tegan wiped his bloodied blade on the dead rogue‘s jacket and idly observed the swift disintegration of the last body in the alley. The postmortem cleanup was courtesy of Tegan‘s titanium weapons, a metal that acted as poisonous acid to the diseased cellular makeup of Breed vampires gone rogue. The bodies dissolved, reducing flesh, bone clothing to nothing but dark spots of ash against the pavement. The breeze would carry away the ash leaving nothing of this battle. Leaving the area, Tegan headed toward the location of where Nikolai and Kade were waiting for him.*
