Compound: Tavia gets Gabby's help

Tavia Chase added 2 new photos.
May 18
*Looking at the pictures that I had taken, I was not quite sure the lighting was right, and there were shadows in some of the pictures. I loved this new photo book and was wanting to fill it with all sorts of memories. Walking toward Gabrielle's quarters, I knew that if anyone could help me with this, she could. Knocking softly on the door*

  • Gabrielle M. Thorne *Laying my book down on the table I go to the door, opening it a tad I notice my sister standing there with her new Nikon and some photos.<Tavia, how are you this afternoon? Looks like you've been trying out your camera.> Motioning her to come in as she hands me the 5100 I smile as she huffs and begins to tell me about her issues with the captured pictures*

  • Tavia Chase *Hugging Gabby* I am very well this afternoon, I need some assistance with my new camera that I received for Mother's Day. *Showing her the pictures that I had taken in the garden* These are just not right, I am really not sure what I am doing with the camera, so I decided that I would turn to the expert. I have a few pictures from the past in the book already and I would like to do some from the present. Could you help me please?

  • Gabrielle M. Thorne <Of course, please come sit. Ill grab some tea while you set your things on the table>Reaching into the mini fridge and pulling two cans of tea out I place one infront of tav and open my can <Are you adjusting properly? You know this is a multi functional camera.>

  • Tavia Chase *Opening the tea, I study the camera as Gabby began to speak* I did not know that, I tried to Google it, but that was not helpful at all. *Sipping the tea* I did not know that you could adjust the camera, I have been focusing it, and turning on and off the flash. *Shifting on the couch, listening*

  • Gabrielle M. Thorne <Well this is a great start for you then, Tav. You see here on the lens there are two gritted pads that you can turn to adjust your shot. Try those on your next outing. remember though lights and shadow are a good thing and can be used to enhance the quality of your pic. One suggestion, start your night shots and get used to the shadowing when you develop them. I love my shots when shadow tells more then the actual capture. Don't be scared of it, just experiment.> Giving the camera back to her sister, smiling as she makes an interesting face <Tav, when I say to play...You know what that entails>

  • Tavia Chase *Nodding at everything Gabby was saying* I think I know what that entails, I will just go with the flow, snapping a picture, and studying the different shots. *Showing her the hummingbird picture* I love this one, I will start tonight, maybe in the garden. I am not scared of it at all, just wanted to capture the pictures correctly. *giving her a look* I guess with pictures, you capture the moment not the correctness of things.

  • Gabrielle M. Thorne <Thats right, sometimes my best shots are ones that where taken by accident. You learn the feel of it. I think you'll do well with this. When the weather warms I'll take you with me on some of my shoots to show you a bit more, if you are willing> Standing and walking over to the window <You see the south end there? The way the sun and shadows shade and embrace each other? Start there. Get the feel for what it tells you and then move to other areas. Think of your shoots as telling stories of your family, or history> Turning to Tav, I notice her antsy way and begin to show her the door.< Your going to do fine, remember tell a story with your shots, sis. They will come out amazing.>

  • Tavia Chase *Looking out the window, shuffling the camera from hand to hand* Thank you my sister, I hope they will. *Hugging Gabby* Thank you for helping me with this, I will begin tonight as the sun begins to set. *Tapping my chin, as I head out the door* I cannot wait to show you the pictures. *smiling*

  • Gabrielle M. Thorne <I can't wait to see them, I'll be in the stable if you need me tonight. Lilly is due for a run and I am in need to feel the wind in my hair.> Laughing as I close the door, thoughts of riding tonight swimming through my mind.

  • Tavia Chase *Walking toward our quarters, I think of all the wonderful things I could take pictures of, smiling widely at my new found knowledge*
